BikeID is a Cardano-based Real-World Asset (RWA) project that brings bicycle ownership, identity, and traceability on-chain using blockchain technology. At its core, BikeID assigns a globally unique Bicycle Identification Number (BIN) to each bicycle, creating a permanent digital identity similar to a car’s VIN. This identity becomes a verifiable on-chain asset on the Cardano blockchain, often referred to as the “Proof of Bike” system.
By linking bikes to blockchain records, BikeID enables riders to prove ownership and track history, including maintenance, warranty details, transfers, and resale information. This tamper-proof traceability of BikeID enhances anti-theft protection, simplifies ownership verification, and strengthens trust between manufacturers, retailers, and users.
BikeID’s approach also creates real utility for global scalability and mass adoption of Cardano in the physical world. The project has already secured partnerships with major manufacturers such as ROMET, with plans to embed BINs into hundreds of thousands of bicycles starting in 2026, potentially onboarding millions of new users interacting with Cardano through BikeID annually.
Beyond individual riders, BikeID’s on-chain identity system offers value to insurers, service providers, and the cycling industry by enabling digital ownership certificates, improving recovery after theft, and opening new revenue streams related to financing, insurance, and lifecycle services.
By anchoring bicycle identities and histories to Cardano’s secure, scalable, and energy-efficient blockchain, BikeID showcases how real-world assets can be verifiably managed on-chain. This not only broadens Cardano’s utility beyond finance but also establishes a trusted on-chain standard for physical asset identity and traceability.
